About

Here’s a little about me! Mariah K. Porter is the pen name I use for fiction writing. I plan on publishing nonfiction in the future, as well, and I write and blog nonfiction under the name Mariah Newton/Mariah K. Newton. I learned to write at age three and I probably wrote my first story shortly after that. My elementary school had us “publish” a book every year starting in kindergarten, and I wrote my first childen’s novels on my own in second grade. Around that time I decided I would be a famous author someday, although I forgot how much I wanted to be a writer during junior high. Fortunately for me I met some awesome new friends in high school who wanted to start a writing club, and I started getting serious about my writing career after that. Since then it’s been a journey to discover what exactly makes me want to write and what I want to accomplish with my writing career. I’ve subsequently decided I want to help people understand themselves and each other and the world around us, and how to love a little better. In a way, I guess I’m basing my series ‘Empathy Girl’ off of what I want to do with my life. If I could be any superhero, I’d be her!

I received my Associate’s degree at Utah Valley University in 2015, a month before I graduated from high school, and since then I feel like all I’ve really accomplished is getting married and having my first child. However, it’s been a long, long four years and a lot has has happened.

When I’m not writing, I’m probably reading, cleaning, crafting, chasing my toddler around, playing D&D, or serving as my husband’s personal therapist. (I have writing as mine.) I’m recovering from a long bout of severe depression and I’m trying to have more of a social life, so if you’d like to chat or do something together, message me!
